Paul, so is this a glass half empty or half full for Intel:
Stock crunch hits Intel Pentium 4 mobos
Go faster, but slowly By Mike Magee, 10/02/2002 12:40:26 BST
SYSTEM INTEGRATORS in Canada tell the INQUIRER that Intel has run into a stock shortage on its retail motherboards in the region. The shortage affects a number of important Intel retail products for the Pentium 4 and Pentium III, including the 845, the 845D, the 815 and others.
The shortage affects the largest Intel distributors including Ingram Micro, Tech Data and others, we are told.
The question now, is whether the shortage also affects boxed product in the USA and in Europe - we'll attempt to find out if that's the case when business starts tomorrow.
The overall shortage - or big demand - for Pentium 4 processors still remains, with supply patchy depending on which processor dealers and system integrators are sourcing.
While there are, of course, alternatives to Intel motherboards, some dealers and customers specify all-Intel machines, putting pressure on the distribution channel. µ
