As we've learned from other telecom decisions (see story below), deferred = cancelled.

Well...if true, I think SK Telecom shareholders would have a case against the company.

SK Telecom outlined their capital spending plans during their conference call on Wednesday. They also reiterated their build-out plans....1xEV-DO in Seoul and other major cities in time for the World Cup.

- Capex for '02 is for 1.5 Trillion Won. Of this total, 1 Trillion Won is designated for 1x/1xEV-DO. The total upgrade cost for 1x and DO is 3 Trillion Won (spread out over about 3 years). 1xEV-DO makes up about 10% of the total.

The problem for COM DEV is that SK Telecom chose to put 1xEV-DO cards (from Samsung) into existing basestations rather than building out new basestations. This is much cheaper than building an entirely new network (but also gives you less capacity).

I have generally found that the cynics of 3G tend to focus on the big macro numbers instead of looking at it on a company by company basis. If you really think that SKT will have trouble financing their 1xEV-DO build-out, I would love to see the numbers.

Here are a couple of places to look....the earnings report and a presentation from IR in January.

SKT may run into technical problems that will slow their build-out (always a risk)...but I fail to see any issues with financing their network.
