HK PCCW Has Spent HK$1.6B On CyberPort So Far-Govt Report

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

HONG KONG -- A unit of Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd. (PCW) has invested more than HK$1.6 billion in the CyberPort, a government-backed high technology business park and residential development, according to a government report.

The progress report from the information technology and broadcasting bureau said Friday the company has also provided a cash flow guarantee from an "A-rated bank."

It also indicated that 78 companies have submitted applications to let office space in the HK$15.8 billion complex, accounting for 94% of the total space.

The report said it's planning to convert some of the originally planned housing development into an office development. It said the first phase of the project, including 18,000 square meters of office space and 2,000 square meters of retail space, is due to be completed by March.

The entire project is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2003.
