It's a compelling read. I have always believed that the casual and disinterested attitude of W toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict created an atmosphere in the Arab world that made it easier for 9/11 to occur. I can't help but think it wasn't a coincidence that the Saudi ruler got angry and immediately the terrorists got the go ahead. I also wonder if the letter from Bush really was based on well thought out policies or rather was a knee jerk response to a problem he failed to see coming. He's now adopted the Clinton policies?

It isn't pleasant to see him play poker with some of the world's best bluffers when it often seems he belongs in a nickel, dime quarter game. The French and English view that he sees the world in simplistic terms is just another way of saying that he does not understand the complexities of world politics and diplomacy. Could you imagine the consternation we would have if we were not the worlds only superpower? I would fear the possibility of a major war.

Is there a connection between the released Taliban prisoners and the hostage taking of Pearl? Ed
