"The only reason to own gold is if you believe we are entering a doomsday like scenario." No, not doomsday. You ask an interesting question -- why own gold? It has some useful applications in industry, and it is pretty. But why else? Do you know that Japan's money supply is growing at 23% per year? Our central bank is doing the same kind of thing. Where does the excess cash go? It is very hard to find 'productive' uses for the money. So the money looks for 'positional' parking places -- and that my friend is gold. The stock market is not yet through the bubble. And the economy looks pretty anemic -- we will see.
