not just church held back, but also steady embrace of monarchy

they steadfastly refused all attempts at constitutional govt
and representational bodies within govt, whether in advisory capacity or equal voice check/balance

amazing, several examples of representatives being disbanded
of elected leaders turning into despots

they had a shock when armies of Japan defeated Russian Empire a century ago
Ottomans did some deep thinking afterwards
concluded free people with a voice make a nation stronger

Islamics were ganged up on consistently
Napoleon with the Russians
Austrians with the Russians
meanwhile, Ottoman local tribe insurrections led to carving of final Ottoman Empire

Ottomans did evolve into democracy
but the 100 other weaknesses, and their late embrace of freedom and liberty, rendered the evolution as moot competitively
very interesting book so far

it points to a glaring lack of talents, across the board
e.g. the Greeks were Ottoman ambassadors, and eventually they negotiated the secession of Greece from Ottoman
e.g. Europeans were Ottoman weapon advisors, so always playing catch-up

but most important was glaring lack of emphasis on education
it continues to this day !!!

Islamics define freedom and liberty in different manner than Westerners
you are free if you can practice Islam as you wish
you have liberty if you are not under infidel's thumb
very strange

I wont even get into Old Testament characterizations and orders
something is radically wrong with these people
something genetic, perhaps neurotic, maybe just lazy
