C-Jelly- There is no reason why the thermal diode couldn't be monitored and the voltage and/or frequency adjusted when the processor starts to overheat.

Certainly true. It's just that none of the chipsets support this at the current time. Not a big deal for Via, SIS, nVidia to add, but it hasn't happened yet. So if you're planning a startup company to build fanless desktops with AMD PowerNow, you won't be able to use stock hardware just yet.
