Historically, MSFT has usually been on the rise BEFORE it ships a major product taking a dive as soon as the product has shipped. I personally attribute the rises (well, the extraordinary part of them) to the hype surrounding the products, and then as the products ship they sometimes don't meet the overhyped expectations so the stock takes a dive.

The most illustrative case of that was the previous peak of MSFT in July 95 and a subsequent drop after Win95 shipped.
