John;

That NY Times article about our intertwined FA policies with Saudi Arabia was probably the biggest eye-opener I've had since I woke up to a television screen moments before the second plane hit WTC.

I was aware of events like the oil embargo, the AWACs controversy and most everything from the Gulf War on. I had no idea of the complexity of the relationship dating back to Wm. Simon's diplomatic efforts, and I consider myself reasonably attentive to politics and foreign affairs, and probably moreso than the average US adult.

It raises a host of questions about independence, interdependence, policy formulations, and how to move forward functionally either within or without that relationship.

I passed it on to many friends and relatives, including my children, explaining that I felt it should be required reading for all Americans.

Thank you for posting it and thanks to Nadine for bringing the series to our attention.
