8:40AM: Equities look to open in the red following 2-day, largely short-covering fueled run. Nortel (NT) indicates softening of sales trends over past 25 days. Company says that customers are not willing to spend any more than they have to in the near term, which will make Q1 numbers more difficult to make. NT also announces resignation of CFO...Asian markets were strong as Bank of Japan says 15-month recession may be almost over...European stocks mostly higher...Nothing on the economic calendar today...Aerospace and Energy Conferences are on the docket today at SG Cowen and UBS Warburg...
Current indications: S&P 500 futures are -3.90, or 5.9 pts below fair value. Nasdaq 100 is -10.5 or 17.5 pts below fair value.
