until the words are uttered. "3G is Dead"

pstel:

Not sure there is a linear connection to your "3 G is dead" mantra, but NPR this morning di d an interesting piece on WiFi. They focused on Aspen CO, where a former ski bum has wired the entire city - for pocket change, apparently. They were able to demonstrate pretty high data rates on a lap top at 40 mph in a van.

There is now another outfit that will set you up with an account and alert you to all the active WiFi networks operating within range of your laptop. Apparently Europe has adopted this stuff in a big way, primarily railway stations at present.

My question was, and is, how can one make money wiring a community for what amounts to free service? It seems more a "sweeten the experience" value added offering for a retailer of a non-related product than a teleco money maker.

At any rate, very interesting stuff. I guess you beat NPR to the issue by about 12 months. Not bad.
