That NY Times article about our intertwined FA policies with Saudi Arabia was probably the biggest eye-opener I've had since I woke up to a television screen moments before the second plane hit WTC.

One quick correction, Kevin, it's from The Washington Post.

I agree that the series is very important. For me, it fits within a course of reading I've undertaken that has changed my views a great deal. Thanks to a good many members of this thread.

I can't say I've changed my views along any continuum that would be from conservative to liberal or the reverse. Just that I'm much better informed qualitatively. That is I see things I had not seen before and that leads me to think differently. For instance, I understand, at least I think I do, certain nuances in Edward Said's posts that I would earlier have missed; I have a sharper awareness of Israeli fears (much thanks to Nadine) but also a sharper awareness of how they tend to make their fears the center of the universe, understandable but others need to put some distance; and I have a much greater awareness of the multitude of things that go under the label "Islamists". I have much reading to do there, but I see the outlines now whereas before I was not aware there was even a text.
