Tomato prices are pretty random - I've paid $A1.50-$A4 to per kilo (US 34 cents per pound to US 91 cents per pound) at the same greengrocer in the last few days... but yes food is cheap. Fish is expensive. The fast food/restaurant indicator is a good one (used by The Economist). Price is almost a case of just changing the dollar sign from $US to $A. And in waitered restaurants as there is no tip it might even be better than half price :)

Bus to Sydney return (200 miles) is $A65. Train is cheaper. Amtrak is way more expensive. Local bus her is $A2.30 which is comaparable to Boston. Sydney is $A3.30 - cost me $A6.60 to get from Mosman to the city only a few miles away.

Sydney is the most expensive city. House prices and rents in Eastern Sydney are very high. Metro average house about $A350k. But in the east $A750k doesn't get anything very fancy.
