It seems to me that the price of gold has fallen as, over the years, people have come to view it as just another commodity. This certainly seems to be the view among central bankers. I don't see why it should be "a store of value".

The supply of dollars can be increased by the Fed, but the Fed will try to avoid inflation and maintain the value of the dollar, and they have been successful in doing this for many years. I don't see any reason for this to change?
