Cat, the thing about gold is that you can't just make more of it just because you feel like it. Look at the market cap of all the gold mining companies -- the price of both metal and equities can go through the roof. The world is awash in dollars. Not so with gold. Like it or not, we are a society in which positional goods can and do behave in strange ways -- gold is positional -- the dollar is not. It is really simple. Gold cannot and will not come to play the role of the dollar -- that is nonsense. But gold can and has already begun to take the place of tech stocks -- in that role nothing is better suited than gold.
