Gas Storage Project

FERC OKs Energy East natgas storage in New York
WASHINGTON, Feb 13 (Reuters) - The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved on Wednesday a plan by Energy East Corp. (NYSE:EAS - news) unit Seneca Lake Storage Inc. to build a natural gas storage facility in Reading, N.Y.

The storage facility will be fashioned from an underground salt cavern and should be completed by November 2002.

It will hold 300 million cubic feet of natural gas and have a daily delivery capacity of 50 million cubic feet.

The $4.5 million facility will be linked to the Columbia Gas Transmission Corp. and Dominion Transmission interstate pipelines to serve the growing Northeast and Mid-Atlantic natural gas markets.

The project would be the Northeast's second natural gas storage facility using salt caverns.

Once completed, Energy East subsidiaries would own and operate salt cavern storage with a total of 1.75 billion cubic feet of working gas capacity.
