Brooke,

One thing you might want to consider is a simple code management system to manage and protect your code. I use Microsoft Visual SourceSafe. It allows you to check in and check out code, and keep multiple versions. That way if you make a change and then realize that you shouldn't have, you can get a prior version of the code. Works great!

I'm sure that there are cheaper alternatives out there also.
