<< I have decided to discontinue my efforts to gather info this way. It proved very ineffective. I think it has to do with the ease at which people can be influenced here. >>

Response: Your intent was to gather info. Would you have been influenced by that info? Just how easily are people influenced here? Are you watching their portfolios? Do you know how much market trading activity is being influenced by our momentous words?

B:
<< This seems to occur because of the free rider type probem. People want to rely on persons whose interest is to push their holdings, and thus no ojbective information will every be produced -- because 1. info providers always have a position and 2. most want to free ride and thus do not check the info out. >>

Response: Are you proposing a usage based fee? What attracted you to a free service? What level of activity would you expect on a fee based service? Would you expect the quality of input to be proportional to the charge applied? And do you expect people with thousands of dollars invested to undermine their holdings with skepticism about their respective companies? If people with a ownership in a company have their money at stake are you saying that they don't want to know anything objective about the company? There is a theory that gamblers subconsciously desire to lose but I wouldn't think that applies to very many investors. The reason being that gambling has the loss built in up front; there is no question that the house always wins, whereas the markets have always won (over moderate time periods). As far as checking things out, where do you go to do that with start-up companies? If I made deliveries to the company I might get a little nosey or if I frequented a deli around noon in the company's industrial park I could learn more than if I spent weeks in a large city's public library.

I hope you find what it is that you're after. Official press releases and news by the trade press are the highest source of information because they are carefully and professionally prepared and subject to much scrutiny. Meanwhile, we'll have to filter through a lot of opinion here. gordon
