My point in comparing Turkey to SA was one is very moderate and modern and the other is altogether a different story.. Both are supposed to be Islamic..
As for why Islamic countries do not have the same level of prosperity as Western countries, I don't think it has to do with religion.. Two very separate things in my mind.. Just because you are religious (Jews, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, what have you) does not mean you are going to have an easy road in life, riches or a sure ticket to heaven for that matter..
For a country or people to prosper, you need education, opportunities, industrious population, law and order, access to capital, etc... Just because majority of the country is Muslims does not equate to anything as far as it goes if the country is mired in corruption, unemployment etc.
