Ten, so there is a Riddler? Forgot, thought the Joker was also the riddle guy. Too many years...
I listened to some of the HP CC, some of it of course being germane to Intel. HP is pretty pleased with their quarter, considering. However, don't like to hear stuff like "GMs were up because of headcount lowering." Consumer PCs were a bright spot, corporate PCs good also. No breakdown, of course re Intel based vs. AMD based PCs, but Intel gained market share in the quarter, we know. IA based servers were flat sequentially, whereas Unix based were down 7% sequentially.
Carly had good words for Itanium development, that both HP and Compaq were getting excellent cooperation from ISVs in software development for Itanium. Also, she said HP's customers were not switching away from them because of the merger, or because of the hardware platform switch. She said there was a hotline for that issue allowing sales people to contact her or other top people directly. It hasn't been used much at all. Recall that Sun and Dell both came out relishing the merger and said that they would make hay while the merger dragged. She said no. There was one metric, sorry I didn't get, in which Sun was down 74%.
No appreciable IT spending comeback 'til second half.
Vote by FTC re merger with Compaq on March 19. HP expressed confidence it would go through, but why wouldn't they.
Not bad overall. Now, go Dell.
