Jim,
If you look at the reasons that Tandem had such a low projected growth
rate, including competition from Wintel, you'll see why the aquisition
makes sense to both companies. The NT server market is growing in triple
digits according to Bill Gates and Tandem is a leader in redundant systems
and transactioning which are technologies that distinguish great servers
and enterprise systems. I believe that the combination of that expertise
with Wintel platforms will help to increase Compaq's growth long term. It
will also help differentiate them from other box makers.
