Actually, it obviously does. Longevity has been heavily
selected in humans, which is why we live longer than any other mammals - it helps that we don't have to run away from lions and hyenas so a great deal of physical capability isn't all that necessary. Even in zoos and highly protected conditions, animals don't live as long. They don't die simply because of predation, illness etc. They just don't live long.

Males have been selected to be able to go on reproducing all their lives. If there was no evolutionary benefit in that, their reproductive capacities would switch off earlier and they'd be drones or something, acting like Yoda. They are switched off enough that usually they can't be bothered and prefer to play politics, golf, money-making or bowls. But they can rise to the occasion if the species is under threat and lots of nubile young women are desperate for reproduction.
