"Enlightenment comes when one realizes that one is already enlightened and simply chooses to know this in one's experience"

Surprisingly to you, perhaps, I would agree with that as a
CONCEPTUAL presentation. Here is something on that subject:

TRADITIONAL VERSUS RADICAL VIEWS OF THE EGO (BY ADI DA)

Everybody who seeks wants to get rid of the ego sense and all the liabilities of separated and self-motivated existence. But in fact, "me" amounts to nothing whatsoever. It is a conventional assumption, not a fact of realized experience.

We go about every kind of subjective path of self-liberation, self-perfection, trying to overcome the content of these conventions, but we never fundamentally examine these conventions themselves.

We assume that we are literally separate, that the "entity" as body, psyche, mind, soul, or whatever is a fact of nature and experience. But in fact that is not our condition at this moment.[Thus] we could say that enlightenment, or radical understanding, is basically the dissolution of the force of conventional signs, in which they again become merely useful.

So, Bill, I don't think there is necessarily major difference of view on this point. But what about egoity,
in a practical sense? Here is Adi Da's technical description of it:

THE PRINCIPAL INDICATORS OF EGOITY (BY ADI DA)

The Principal Symptom (or Indicator) Of egoity (or Of Identification With the ego-"I") Is Not the Apparent experiencing of conditionally arising "things" (or of psycho-physical phenomena and states)-Such That The Fact Of the experiential arising of "things" (or of psycho-physical phenomena and states) Is, As A Principal Means Toward The Real Transcending Of egoity itself, To Be Presumed To Be A Problem (or Even The Problem), Requiring (As A Solution) The Search To Avoid (or To Exclude, or To Be Separated From) any or all "things" (or any or all psycho-physical phenomena and states). Rather, The Principal Symptom (or Indicator) Of egoity (or Of Identification With the ego-"I") Is The Failure To Divinely Self-Recognize any and all experientially arising "things" (or any and all psycho-physical phenomena and states)-and, Thus, The Failure (and, Indeed, The Inability) To Divinely Self-Recognize them In Reality, In Truth, and In Real God. Therefore, Real and True (and Inherently Most Perfect) Divine Enlightenment, Divine Awakeness, or Inherently Most Perfectly ego-Transcending Divine Self-Realization (or Real-God-Realization) Is Not Characterized By experiential (and Strategically Achieved) Separation From any or all conditionally arising "things" (or any or all psycho-physical phenomena and states), but By The Always Immediate (and Inherent) Divine Self-Recognition Of any and all experientially arising "things" (or any and all psycho-physical phenomena and states)-and, Thus, The Always Already Effective Ability To Divinely Self-Recognize them In Reality, In Truth, and In Real God.

Finally, there is HELP in learning how to function in such a manner, moment to moment--which is the role of the Guru.

In the next post I will give a description of the function of the Guru and the process.

Namaste!
