The closer you are to retirement the more you NEED the market: you are quite wrong: I'm not going to "stay out of the market"....
But I don't believe that we are getting a bull market his year so I have to learn to trade by some system before I do it in earnest for income.
Brli, dfxi and gac.to (and some racn and dhi) I'll just keep for now. Almost all stocks I've bought over the last year have met their upside target had I just stayed in them!
So I pick ok. But with just three "buy and holds" I should be ok.
It's a myth that you invest conservatively when you retire: you want money to do what you want to do don't you?
