there is no conceivable benefit for those folks
to do anything but take the 5th, IMHO.
They will only be made to look bad,
no matter what they say, and worse yet,
they will change no one's mind about them
so it's not like a PR opportunity is being lost.

At least the rules of evidence curtail
the kind of nonsense spewed by these politicians.
