You asked - Why is this important?
"Current standards" no longer allow such questions. It took many years, much was lost and strenuous attempts are being made to eliminate such research. What was obtained was the tip of the iceburg, which has a direct bearing on how our government conducts business, and how we live. It may well be that people in positions of power have committed crimes and should be exposed and removed. Most importantly, our democracy isn't worth the name if our decisions are based on false information, or lack of full and complete information.
This administration, like ones before it, is accelerating the trend towards a hermetically-sealed government, by hiding the decision-makers, by nullifying the FOIA, classifying presidential and vice-presidential papers illegally. Either there is much more questionable and/or outright illegal activity behind the scenes, or a lot of excuses for no reason.
People like Bamford are heroes. His life was threatened, his livelihood at stake, and he had to deal with many folks like you who don't particularly care, live in a cozy dreamworld, hoping everything is dandy, letting others keep our republic from becoming an autocracy.
I'm not here to argue with you, I personally don't think you'll worry until you're hauled off to jail or fined for an offense you didn't commit or that makes no sense. It's clear you will read nothing of this, or nothing you read will allow you to think there is an issue worth considering.
Fortunately, he perservered, and to some small extent, our country is that much more free as a result. There will be others.
Enjoy. |
