stockcharts.com Once the chart comes up click on the histogram icon on the bottom left of the chart just under, the y in May 01. A right click on the histogram allows for some customization (lock Y axis, hide shading)but what I found that I really like is a right click on the "time box" the slider on the bottom of the chart. It allows you to pick a time frame 10 day,30days, 90 days, 180 days, and 365 days. You can then slide the "time box" back to a point in time (data goes back to 1999) and see how the stocks moved on a percentage basis for the selected time frame. I'll look into it more by picking a known inflection point in the market or sector index and checking out what I see. But, before I get to that part of the process I'd use the same tool and find the sectors that are moving.
For sector rotation spotting I thought I sick these tickers into the link above and see if it would indicate which ones were moving. $BKX,$BTK,$CRB,$DRG,$FPP,$GSO,$IIX,$INDU,$MID,$NDX,$NWX,$OEX,$OSX,$RLX,$RUT,$RXP,$SOX,$SPX,$TYX,$VIX,$VXN,$XAL,$XAU,$XBD,$XCI,$XOI,$XTC,$HUI
Having found a moving sector I thought I go here and biz.yahoo.com click on the sector, Gold and Silver for example biz.yahoo.com then compare the listed stocks with its index and look for the strongest stocks based on past performance. That's the master plan in a nutshell. Woops, I almost forgot, RE:. Even with all this as an old geezer, I have to "see" chart patterns in the end. Yeah, I'll add that also. You sent me off to my charts book on the double diamond chart reference.
Edit, have not looked at your carpets yet, will look into it. |
