combjelly,

Ok, let me try to summarize this (you have to excuse me, I am way behind this Enron story, I am still recouperating from the elimination of Slovakia in the Olympics in hockey - Congrats to our German friends)
- GWB said that "he only got to know Lay after he became the Guv of Texas"
- you say he lied, because he had "many opportunities ... to meet him, and work closely with him, before he was governor." Basically this is your assumption.
- Because of your assumption, you conclude that he lied
- You don't see any reason to for GWB to lie about this, but you are assuming that he is lying
- Your assumption that GWB is lying is making you very suspicious about him

Hmmm... How about we go backward.

- You are suspicious about GWB
- When he says something, you are assuming he is lying
- When you feel he is lying, you suspect that he is doing it to hide something sinister

So basically no matter what GWB says or does, you can safely come to the same conclusion.

Joe
