Hey John, I think it's been proven that Juniper not only has less meat to eat because sales in core suck (where Juniper and Cisco both play), but sales at the edge are still hot (where Juniper does not play but Cisco does). So not only was there less market for Juniper to sell to, but they also lost market share to Cisco (gap widened by a total of 10% between Cisco and Juniper in latest quarter). Not only that but Juniper missed a product cycle, so they won't be back in this game until sometime in 2003, when they come out with a product that can leapfrog Cisco. Juniper is not only dead money for another year, it's still a damn good short even at these levels. Cisco is definitely eating Juniper's lunch.

I remember the CEO of Juniper saying a couple weeks ago that "we won't sell to our customer's customer" taking a pot shot at Cisco's enterprise business. What stupidity! Cisco doesn't have to say it, but we all know it's true: you can't be finicky about who you will or won't sell to. Cisco will sell to your grandmother, if she needs a core router. LOL. Anyway, it was just posturing, but I think Juniper is going to be acquired by Nortel within 1-2 years. So short it now and then pick it up cheep in early 2003. If they are acquired you'll make a big pop. If they aren't acquired, maybe their revenues will pick back up with their new product in 2003.

Hasta la vista, Juniper!
