TAUNTON, Mass.--Kopin Corp. here today reported a 25% sequential increase in revenues to $15.4 million in the fourth quarter from $12.3 million in Q3 2001. Kopin's sales were 37.4% lower than $24.6 million in Q4 of 2000.

The supplier of miniature flat-panel displays and III-V compound heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) products posted a net loss of $7.1 million vs. a loss of $9.2 million in Q3 and a net income of $3.4 million in Q4 of 2000.

"Despite the traditional seasonal weakness, we still expect to see single-digit sequential revenue growth in the first quarter, with further improvement in our financial results," said John C.C. Fan, chairman and CEO of Kopin. "While we anticipate that seasonal weakness in the wireless handset industry will cause our III-V revenue to be roughly flat on a sequential basis in the first quarter, that should be offset by double-digit sequential growth in our CyberDisplay business as we continue to increase our rapid market penetration."

Kopin said its III-V semiconductor business grew 39% sequentially in the fourth quarter on strong orders from HBT customers. Fan said Kopin now supplies about 50% of all HBT-based power amplifiers sold for wireless handsets worldwide.
