Re: Intel rumor

Here's Global's weekly ad:
globalcomputeroutlet.com

Their P4 1800 systems with 256 meg ram, DVD, CDRW, Windows XP go for $799 for the first 10 to buy, then they go back to the regular price of $879.

In their weekly ad:
globalcomputeroutlet.com

They have an Athlon XP 1700+ without the DVD but with a monitor for $979.

The Athlon 1700 goes for $112 on pricewatch, while the P4 1800 goes for $165 on pricewatch. The monitor in question is in the same ad, but refurbished, for $99 and standalone new for $189. A DVD is about a $50 Item. So the P4 probably contributes about $140 of the price.

So it may be that there has been a sudden decrease in P4 pricing (from $165 to $140).

Maybe Intel is about to release a new speed grade. There may also be a compression in pricing going on as buyers decide that the difference between 1800 and 2000 is not worth $150+.
