It seemed more like a female version of Richard Pryor to me. Well produced and funny. Also, at times very touching. But then, I am struck with full force the fact that I don't have a clue what they are talking about, when it comes to childbirth.
And the piece dedicated to the Bosnian women, was very brave and accomplished an impossible feat, somehow through words able to hold up a mirror for the victims to look at and say, yep that's me. And possibly, get better from there.
I feel ashamed in knocking it, in a way. But then, perhaps the criticism of it that I participated in, helped improve it so the real message can get out. Women are not objects. Sex is important, and not a recreational pastime. It involves the essence of who we are.
So on one hand, the VM says that sex is special and not recreational, and on the other it says that the orgasm is all that is important.
That conflict diminishes it's importance, and relegates it to being a commercial work, and for that it has merit. But I prefer the old Richard Pryor concerts. |
