IMHO=in my humble opinion. BTW=by the way. FWIW=for what it's worth. TIA=thanks in advance. These acronyms are usually capitalized but, IMHO, the medium will inject them into the language proper so I just put them in lower-case, since, imho <g>, over-use of capitals is offensive to the eye. Here are some other acronyms id.ibs.se Putting "acronyms" into a search engine like Altavista or Yahoo will bring up a lot of sites. Ole 49r (a local character) uses FWISA a lot and I would appreciate somebody telling me what it stands for.
John Kaiser has a pretty rational and comprehensive write-up on companies using the internet in his May-June (latest) edition of the Kaiser Bottom-Fishing Report. If you can borrow a copy, it's worth a read, if you can't, tell me and I'll copy pages 2-5 and send them to you. You already have a better-than-average website, but it's still a good read. Investors increasingly use the internet, especially this forum of SI, to get up-to-date information. Imho, this trend will continue and accelerate, I have no idea how I survived for 30 years of investing without a computer........yes, I do, I just used to buy blue-chip stock and put it away, paying at times 3% of the gross value to buy and sell, knowing all the time I was in the dark and the market was controlled by people closer to the scene. Banks.....an old friend used to say "In the end, the banks will have all the money." Less than a year ago, I bought a computer and was amazed at the ease and speed of both information-gathering and trading. In 95 I had about 6 trades, in 96 about 70 and so far in 97 about 400. Today I put in 11 orders and had 6 fills, 29 bucks flat per trade, I remember paying $400+ commissions to a full-service broker for a single trade. The investment world has changed.
One thing Kaiser says I disagree with completely, it is that CEOs should not post directly to SI. He is referring there to the Ashton rumours that shot the stock up in May, and recommends ways of management dealing with rumours, mostly good stuff, imho. But there are at least two examples on this forum of CEOs posting to the thread; Mongolia Gold (MGR) and TNK. Of course, they are careful what they say, but that looks good on a CEO no matter where he speaks. One thing about SI, it doesn't cost the company what a Canada Newswire release would, another thing is it injects some humanity and sense of contact between management and us great unwashed who hold shares. There is capital here, many more lurk than post, SI will be a significant force in the movement of venture capital, imho. No guts, no glory.... no access, no money....imho......
