The short-sale and forward sales of gold, combined with sales by central banks, dwarf gold jewelry demand. It is not just a matter of the level of investment demand, it is a matter of unwinding a huge "anti-investment" position. Unwinding a short position of many many thousands of tons (with estimates in recent years ranging from 3,000 to 8,000 tons) will constitute demand that dwarfs jewelry demand. What shall we call this kind of demand?
