Alan,
Got the emails. Thank you so much !!! : ' )
Thanks also for telling me about the "Gold Price Monitor" thread. No, I was not aware of it, but it looks very interesting.
As we've discussed (in front of the countless millions who I am sure are lurking on this thread !!! : ' ) ), my RGLD (and CCH) investment is primarily a hedge against the inevitable Bear market which has to come sooner or later. I am amazed that the market continues to rise, and I am trying to share in the profits there, but I want to balance my portfolio so that I won't be inclined to leap from tall buildings in a single bound if the trend should suddenly turn.
As such, I don't spend much time or energy on the Gold sector. I see that we have hit new lows and wonder how much lower it can go, but I feel confident that the price of gold will go up sharply eventually, especially if the central banks don't have the large reserves to slow the climb. Their current selling will push prices down now, but I think that they are preparing the way for a sharp increase in the price of gold when the time comes.
Any idea what has been going on with RGLD lately? That was a nice run up to $10.75, then back down to $8.25, all on NO NEWS that I could find. Now it seems to be going up again. I wouldn't mind doing a little trading in and out if it was more predictable and if the spreads were not so large. It was interesting how the volume shot up and the spread jumped down during the recent upswing. When it hit $10.75, I noticed the volume drop and the spread increase, so I figured that it was short-lived.
I wish I had more to contribute to this thread, but I am a beginner and primarily wanted to open the conversation lines so that other more knowledgeable folks would join in. I appreciate all of your input. Two is a lot less lonely than one! Please note my new email address if you want to contact me directly. I check it about once a week and am not quick to reply, but I do appreciate your help.
Hope your other investments are doing well, and I hope that we are well-positioned when gold prices take off again. It may be a long wait though.
Hope you had a good fourth. We are very fortunate to enjoy the freedoms that we have in this country.
Best wishes !!! : ' )
