Dear Sultan:

> There are ayats that are timeless and there are ayats that are specific to the conditions and events of the time..

2 points/questions:

a) hmmmm.... Then how can one claim Quran is from God (or even imply that it contains the words of God) if some parts of it are timeless, and some parts of it do not make sense what so ever with 21st century standards!

b) Who is to say what is timeless and what is meant to be for the specific times of 1500 years ago?!

Anyway to summarize it and in short, It seems based on my research and what Mulsims are telling us that:

1) First you have to make sure you have the right version of the Quran and Hadith. This is especially important since there are many versions of Quran and one can not trust for sure which is the correct one!

b) When (and if) one finds the right version of Quran and the book of Hadith, then one must make sure that (s)he has the correct proper "translation" of it. This is particularly important for none Arabic speaking people, since (and again according to Muslims) only a person who is proficient in the Arabic language can truly understand what Quran and Hadith are talking about.

c) Once both a) and b) above are met, then one must recognize the fact that some parts of Quran and Hadith are meant to apply only to specific period of time from 1500 years ago and some parts are meant to be timeless! And that itself is a challenge by its own since it all will be based on complex interpretations based on even more complex formulas!

Gee... and here I am thinking God wanted all people on this planet understand his/her message (although in Islam God is actually a 'HE'), without getting a degree in Rocket science! :)
