c.horn Thanks again - I checked out AIM. Daughter is out for the day and has away msg on with sounds disabled. I'm quite ignorant of AIM but managed to check out options for sounds and you may have sent me in the right direction. There seem to be a ton of sound options there. Then again, maybe I should just leave it alone since I'm apparently the only one in the house that seems to be bothered by it <g>!! runman
