I didn't see steps 1. through 7. with computing or autos.

I don't believe the dot.com induced "bubble" represents steps 1. through 7. for telecom/internet.

There were severe distortions and there have been and will be dire consequences for telecom/internet sectors, but telecom/internet is in its infancy and there will not be consolidation, but technology driven evolution.

Survivors: Programmable logic device makers; analog and mixed signal chip makers; chip equipment makers; communication processors and logic chip makers; wireless chip makers; optical component makers; leading box makers: CSCO, IBM, SUNW, LU, NT, NOK; monopolist telecom suppliers: RBOCS, cable companies.
