The only direction Model Numbers are going to be shifted in (until Hammer, anyway) is down (i.e. more MHz per Model Number).

Although AMD is being ridiculously tight-lipped about it, I think it's almost certain that Tbred will debut on a 2x166MHz FSB. This will pretty much allow them to stick with their old formula for Model Numbers. They are still slightly ahead in performance (on average, looking at the benchmarks used in reviews out there) against Northwood, on a Model Number for Clock basis (2.2GHz Northwood does has the performance crown, IMO, although not by a wide margin).

When Intel shifts to 4x133MHz FSB (not to mention their dual-DDR chipset), AMD is going to really need that FSB increase to 2x166 to stay close. My guess is that the Model Number (if continued as currently) will fall slightly behind Intel's Clock rating (whereas AMD is now slightly ahead). Only some serious improvements on Tbred would enable AMD to avoid that - mainly a 512kB L2 cache, but there are really no indications that is going to be the case (a big mistake, IMHO).
