Onkrious - I read the Economist article when it was published. While it drops a lot of names and throws around a lot of numbers, it ignores the real economics of stock options. Articles like the two linked in your post create controversy and incite the uninformed reader into believing that big business is pulling the wool over investor's eyes by not reporting expense for stock options. This probably increases circulation and the the publication's profits. Sorry Onk. I remain unconvinced.

The economic reality of stock options is that they really are a free ride because the shareholders directly fund the profit successful executives make when they resell the shares they obtained from exercising the option in a shareholder-to-shareholder transaction.
