Well I guess I would say I have to disagree. I suppose we could have taken them down if we never demobilized after WWII, and we used nukes, but it would not have been a walk in the park. It would have been very bloody. And once we did overthrow or destroy the governments of the two countries we would have had an enormous area containing a significant fraction of the worlds people to deal with. If we were not very skillful and lucky it could have been an enormous mess.
