John, I don't think Intel will have a truly new desktop core until 2010 or so. Didn't they say that the P4 will take them to 10Ghz by then or something to that effect? Prescott will be a beefed up P4 ( another shrink and more cache probably ). I think at some point the P4 will have enough cache that it will make up for the lousy design. I think Intel designed the long pipeline with that in mind. That it will be fed quickly enough that it won't matter that it has to deal with bubble latencies.
