I don't think anyone wants you to eat screwed up bananas. Besides, bananas is a whole different trade issue. I think the point that Ms. Roy was making is that it is very difficult for the 3rd world farmers to compete with farmers who are getting subsidies up the wazoo from their legislators and Washington.

As for corruption, Ms Roy is an author, not a top police officer who should be going around arresting politicians. If you noticed the chain of governments ruling the state of Maharashtra, the people did what they could: changed the ruling party. Eventually, the politicians learn. Meanwhile, if "education costs" were not to run into millions, and shareholders were to ask why such things costs millions, that might help stem the problem up front. If Enron ( or others) blatantly offer up money but do not have to face the consequences because of different laws, then yes, most people will have their price.
