Just to be clear, politics, and the laws & policies that come out of political wrangling, do have a profound effect on your investments. Like it or not, this is a fact of life.
How did we get a debacle like Enron? Lax oversight in the accounting & sec reporting areas perhaps? (note, the new sec head wrote some of the current policy in this area, back in the mid 1990's. Surprised???)
How about the old S&L meltdown? Were ill-concieved changes in the law to blame?
What policies led to the events of 11 Sept? What policies would have prevented those events?
These things do need to be debated, and I don't mind observations now & then here on the rat thread, but no name calling, just calm comment. The exchange of ideas relating to the above are absolutley critical to our financial health, because no one else cares.
For reference, one of my mentors, who was a federal judge, told me a long time ago the real money made in the stock market & specific business was due to having a good idea in advance of changes in policy and law.
All you have to do is think about that sentence for a few minutes. It will become clear. |
