My conclusion is that
a) Few citizens have any real representation in Congress - Only a handful have the testosterone and fortitude to think independently
b) oversight of intel must be forced, it will not be willing. They have too much to hide. Let the intel services be as defensive as they wish. The more defensive, the better - to avoid the embarassment of Tenet's ridiculous presentation last week Allowing them any leeway at all means losing information They are not to be trusted. This we know.
c) disclosure is better than what has been occuring Recall foreign agents at risk Implement Team B Give the few trustworthy Congressmen complete oversight Disclose everything with only the prior noted exceptions. Immediately. ----------------------- - Responding to your comments: It's not the amok agents that worries me. It's the people at the top. With moral, loyal leadership at the top, amok agents would NOT survive. - an attempt at transparency must be made, as difficult as it seems, it's working slightly, albeit a 40 year delay. We need to reduce that delay to weeks, not years. - The chance chain of command will be honored is as likely as these "rogues" (altho' calling the chairman of the Joint Chiefs a "rogue" makes that a useless term) are to get a conscience. - Diversion of funds, perpetrating heists, counterfeiting for alternate funding are the issues burdening the intel community, which should be disbanded and reformed under people of unquestionable integrity and loyalty to this country. We have such people in this country. Some may even be in the military. Some, certainly, are not.
The goal is as important as the execution, because there are those who do have loyalty to this country, who will do what it takes to keep their brethren honest, if they know the people are behind them.
Thank you for your thoughtful reading of the links. It's critical that those who care about this country's future do the research even into issues that are difficult to deal with. |
