One word: Accountability
"...these (intelligence agency) people have the capability of perpetrating major heists, counterfeiting, performing industrial espionage, and other such things if they have to look for alternative funding. If you assume that there is a sophisticated black ops underworld, there is no stopping them..."
How to accomplish that: Fire people, recall Congressmen, impeach administration officials, get rid of the parasites.
If all dollars are accounted for in government expenditures, and we stop seeing a few billion here, a trillion there, missing, we start to clean a bit of that up.
Next, the same mechanisms used to detect Al Queda terrorist funds will alert banks for funds not being used in legitamate business transactions. These are disclosures being made today. The analysis is, however, under the control of the intel "fox" in the henhouse, rather than the taxpayer/citizen "farmer" who does the work, pays the price and takes the damage.
Nothing's perfect. But, do you know where you money goes? Sure you do, for the most part. And what you know doesn't go for terrorism does it? With a couple exceptions: - Oil - 10% of which goes to Saudi Arabia and thence to various anti-American causes - Fed. Taxes - 15% of which goes to military and intel ops
You and I deserve accountability of those mysterious dollars. We're now in the computer age, when even legacy systems can present budgets in realtime to everyone on the web. |
