I agree. In general I want to see movies about people being people- not about mindnumbed soldier bots, who can kill anything, or about murderous animals/monsters/people that stalk scantily clad teenage girls, or stupid melodramatic movies that reinforce stereotypes and prejudices. I like to see movies about people I would like, or, if I wouldn't like them, at least movies about personal growth, or the destructiveness of a lack of personal growth.
In general I hate war movies- for example. Because they tend to be just so much propaganda. I know what my father's war was like, and it wasn't like 99% of the movies. However, I saw a movie called the Thin Red Line, that was really superb. Have you seen it? I put off seeing it, because I do hate war movies so much. But I can recommend that movie to you. It was a very nuanced, very humane look at men in combat- and one of the best things about it was that most of the characters were not simple stereotypes. The lead character, and the naturalistic elements in the movie, and the connection to the past, were so good I cannot adequately describe them. |
