CPQ+TDM

You've simply made the case for why TDM wanted this deal too. CPQ brings TDM the sort of no-nonsense focus on cost control and manufacturing efficiency that they sorely need, as well as the expertise needed to accelerate and complete their NT transition. TDM in turn gives CPQ instant credibility with the Fortune 100 market, an on-the-ground sales force that knows how to work with this class of customer, and the in-depth technical know-how for what's required to build, market, and support mission-critical systems.

No wonder Pfeiffer called TDM a "perfect match" for CPQ. This isn't about 1997 or even 1998. The TDM acquisition is part of CPQ's plan to position itself to take over the leadership in enterprise computing in the 21st century. With it they've moved a giant step closer to that goal. SUNW will be the first to feel the heat starting next year, and IBM's turn will come in another 3-5. Wintelpaq is now just about unstoppable.
