Another story on Xbit-labs site, which probably explains somewhat slow arrival of faster Northwood P4s:

From our unofficial sources we managed to learn a bit more details on Intel’s plans concerning the moving of Pentium 4 processors from 0.18micron Willamette core to 0.13micron Northwood core.

By the end of Q1 the Willamette to Northwood ratio will reach 2:1 (that is 2/3 of Willamette CPUs against 1/3 of Northwood CPUs).
By the end of Q2 these cores should swap places, so that there will be twice as many Northwood processors sold than Willamette based ones...

The rest at: xbitlabs.com

Since Intel's p4 output this quarter is 2/3 Willamette, introduction of 2.4 GHz Northwood would push the prices of all these Willamettes down further than Intel wants them.
