The MSM5200™ Mobile Station Modem (MSM™) Wideband CDMA (WCDMA) chipset and system software solution has been sampling to handset manufacturers since September 2001, and most recently test mobiles with the MSM5200 solution have been used for interoperability testing and verification with a number of network infrastructure companies. September 2001 • Worldwide availability of samples of single-mode UMTS solution (MSM5200 family) • MSM5200 selection by LG Information and Communications, Samsung Electronics and SANYO Electric Co. November 2001 • Public demonstration by QCT of UMTS voice call with MSM5200-based handset December 2001 • First international call made using UMTS-compliant test mobile phone: Vodafone Spain with Nortel Networks infrastructure January 2002 • Live network calls announced with Lucent Technologies infrastructure • Previews, demonstrations completed for majority of European carriers
